Carlisle Lake District Airport is proud to have marked a significant moment in its history with the unveiling of a Blue Plaque commemorating the arrival of 300 child Holocaust survivors in August 1945. These children landed at what was then RAF Crosby-on-Eden, flown from Prague in a squadron of ten converted Stirling bombers, becoming the first group offered refuge in the Lake District after the horrors of the Holocaust.

The plaque, installed by the Carlisle and District Civic Trust, serves as a lasting tribute to the children’s courage, resilience, and the enduring importance of compassion in the face of tragedy.

CLDA is proud to honour this powerful chapter of shared history and help preserve its memory for future generations.
